Apple’s smartphones are made for multitasking, of
course, but using your device for messaging, calls, email and other
apps can sap your battery in a hurry. There are several ways that you
can conserve your
iPhone’s battery power, however. We’ll show you the
most effective ways and will take you step-by-step through several
methods to extend
battery life iPhone 5. You’ll never have to
annoy your friends again by borrowing someone’s iPhone 5 charger.
Turn Down the Brightness of your Screen
You
can adjust the brightness of an iPhone’s display but know that the
brightest setting will deplete your battery faster. Use the lowest
brightness setting that still allows you to see the screen clearly.
Turn off Bluetooth
Bluetooth has many useful functions: it allows
you to make hands-free phone calls and to play music from wireless
portable speakers. However, when you are not using it, if you turn off
the Bluetooth setting it will increase battery life.
Turn off Notifications
It’s nice that the iPhone 5 alerts you to text
messages, missed calls and notifications with an app with red circles.
However, staying that connected to the world depletes your battery that
much faster. Turn the notifications off to extend iPhone 5 battery life.
Update the OS
iOS updates are released periodically by Apple to
adjust software functions. The updates are also intended to optimize
battery life. Allowing these updates won’t solve all your battery issues
but it couldn’t hurt to allow all the updates issued by Apple.
Use Wi-Fi Instead of 4G
One of the selling points of the iPhone 5 are its
blistering 4G LTE speeds, but using this capability limits battery
life. If Wi-Fi is available, use to save your battery.
Turn off Location Service
Several iPhone 5 apps utilize Location Services
to help you find attractions and restaurants in the area or to attach a
location to a Facebook post or tweet. Many times downloading an app will
enable Location Services. Asking your iPhone to continually update your
location unnecessarily uses a lot of battery power.
Disable Push Email
Each time your iPhone scans your inbox it uses
unnecessary battery power, and having email automatically pushed to you
depletes it even further. Turn off Push and check your data less often
and you can dramatically improve battery power.
Turn off Equalizer
The equalizer feature adjusts the bass and treble
of your music to allow you the most optimum music experience. Your
smartphone is working hard to make these changes as the song is playing,
so it will quickly sap your battery. If a perfect audio experience is
not a priority for you, disable the equalizer.
Turn off Siri Raise to Speak
Siri is a wonderful tool to find information
without typing a search and Siri’s Raise to Speak function takes that
convenience one step further. You can enable Siri simply by putting the
iPhone 5 to your ear. This app drains battery power so turn off Raise to
Speak and Siri itself when you don’t need it.
Use Airplane Mode
When you are in a situation where you don’t need
the iPhone to transfer data (a meeting at work or a doctor appointment,
for instance), select airplane mode. This mode disables any data
transfers and will help conserve battery life. You may even find that
not being inundated with notifications and emails for a few hours every
day is a nice break.
